Getting In -- One Toe At a Time

So, the more that I read and learn about Social Media, the more interested I am becoming. I think I'm starting to understand the "buzz" factor. Look at me --I've created a blog. It's not as scary as I thought...smile.

I'm even getting more comfortable with my Facebook page. Didn't think that would happen either. Matter-of-fact, I'm starting to envision myself as a future social media maven. I'm going to stay focused on the potential 'good' that can come from social networking. If I keep my mind there, I can avoid the "warning Will Robinson" train of thought.

All-in-all, social media is finding a way into everything we do, from shopping to sharing info and influencing it's here to stay whether I put another toe in or not...

Until next time --Happy Networking!

More thoughts on communication...

It's a week later and I'm back to share more of my thoughts on communication. In my last post I posed a question -- How do you define communication? In this post I'll dig a little deeper. Currently, our society has turned the communication world on its head. For so many years the basic modes of communication that existed were spoken and written.

And then came the technology boom introducing answering machines, voice mails, and emails. Fast forward to this very second and we're surrounded by text messaging, IM's, blogs, Myspace, Facebook, twits and smart phones.

So again -- how do you define communication? Is it two board and varied to put into one box, so to speak? Does it mean different things to different people? Does it suit the needs of the masses, or are people being herded like cattle from one latest-and-the-greatest invention to the next?

What's your take?

Defining Communication

Well, I must say that I'm proud of myself. I've just created this blog (a new demision in communication) for a 20-year public relations/marketing communications professional.

What better way to discuss the world of communication, its effects and how it is constantly changing then to blog about it. So here we go...what is communication? How do we humans define it?
